The Bid Team

The heart of The HollandBelgium Bid beats in Eindhoven. The team has offices on the fourteenth floor of the impressive Kennedy Tower building in Eindhoven, where they are guests of the city and where matches will potentially be played.

Following the successful UEFA Euro 2000 Championships, Belgium and the Netherlands are once again joining forces. Together the two countries aim to convince the twenty-four members of the FIFA Executive Committee that Belgium and the Netherlands would be capable of organizing a spectacular World Cup in either 2018 or 2022.

The HollandBelgium Bid Foundation is formed by the Belgian and Dutch Football Associations, the KBVB and KNVB respectively. The Foundation’s committee consists of members from both associations and is led by chairmen François De Keersmaecker and Michael van Praag. Ruud Gullit is the President of The HollandBelgium Bid.

The four-man management team has a formidable track record within the footballing world and is made up of Michel Sablon, Henny Smorenburg, Gilbert Timmermans and Harry Been.

The foundation is supported financially by both governments, the two football associations and the Official Partners.

The Eindhoven City Council made turnkey office space available to the team. Here, Belgian and Dutch team members work together with great enthusiasm and dedication orchestrating the various aspects of their World Cup bid, including hotel accommodation, transportation, stadiums, contact with host cities, infrastructure, the Bid Book and communication.

Communications agency Hill & Knowlton forms part of The Bid team. The agency is responsible for the worldwide communication campaign and is deploying its international network on The Bid’s behalf.

The efficient HollandBelgium Bid team is supported by an increasing number of people from all layers of society including representatives of various government bodies, specialists in sustainability, transportation, stadiums, tourism and economic development, and experts from the Official Partners and both football associations.

The core team and the group of experts are working very closely together to submit an innovative and sustainable HollandBelgium Bid.
